Paphos Tigers vs Dhekalia

Dear Members,

Game this Saturday, 26th February 2011, against Dhekalia (Sovereign Base)kicks off at 12:30, meeting at the Keg and Barrel for 9 am. If anyone wishes to stay after the game and watch the England Match they are welcome to.

All passports and car details have been submitted, if you do wish to come along and support the Tigers and have not been before please forward me your details no later than Thursday 10 am.

Look forward to seeing you there! Please dont forget to bring your passports with you for access onto the base, otherwise you will NOT be allowed on the base.

Events Update

We are writing to inform you of events that have been arranged for this year and where possible we will give you the dates and the venues.

Firstly and most importantly for the club, we will be opening our new ground at Tala in April. As soon we have the date we will let you all know. We have decided to combine this with a Family Day which will involve stalls, bouncy castle plus much more, and will obviously include a refreshment tent for those who just want to chill and enjoy the sunshine!!!. There will be some nice surprises for our members so please bring your membership cards along. This is NOT instead of our Fun Day which will remain in place in September).

If anyone needs directions to our new ground please contact any committee member or contact Cherrie on 96333072.

EVENTS:
5th March - RACE NIGHT at the Welcome Inn (Formerly the Latin Community) £10 per person including food please contact Graham at the Rugby Arms, we only have a limited number of tickets and they are selling fast.

23rd March - BOWLING NIGHT at Cockatoos Bowling Alley, it starts at 7, limited places so book early by calling Brian 99342687 or Chris 99983845.

1st April - QUIZ NIGHT at the Keg and Barrel please contact Barry for tickets on 99303759

We are delighted to have our first touring side out in May from a team local to AJ and Cherrie (from the UK), which should be a great day! Obviously Cherrie will still be cheering for the Tigers!!! Refreshments will be available!!!

Entry Level Referees Course

To All Members.

A referees course will be run at Akrotiri prior to their 10's tournament (30th May -3rd June). We desperately need referees so if you have even the slightest interest please get in touch with me. Running up and down the touch and even refereeing I can hear how good you all are !!!!

It's fun and it's interesting.

Without a ref we all know there will be no game!!

Match Report, Saturday 5th February

Paphos Tigers 17 Limassol Crusaders 41

The Tigers travelled to Limassol to play their "home" fixture in front of a small but enthusiastic group of supporters.

With 6 players playing out of position and some in those positions for the first time this was a big ask for the Tigers but right from the outset it was obvious that the lads were all up for it forcing the Crusaders to give away repeated penalties, George Agathocleous was in good form with the boot and slotted four. The Crusaders' responded with 3 tries, 2 just before half time and the first from a tap free kick which caught the defence well and truly napping giving the Crusaders a 17-12 lead at the break.

The Crusaders half time "chat" did the trick for them, they stopped giving away the penalties and after 5 minutes ran in the first of four second half tries. The game was far from one sided with the Tigers showing they are a team, working well in defence and giving each other moral support. Chris Thoma came off with an ankle injury mid way through the half, the Tigers playing out the game with 14 men.

Stand off Jack Bilton was under great pressure in attack and not given a lot of room but tackled every thing in sight in defence as did "man of the match" centre Nathan Pring. Wingers Kos and Ryan Riddler both got the ball in attack and once they find that "finishing touch" will be seen scoring many tries. George crashed over late on for a try taking the usual 3 defenders with him!

Limassol are now a force to be reckoned with and the Tigers performance was a credit to themselves and coach Nick Bilton who was heard saying to the team "we are building lads" Keep it up You Tigers!

Six Nations Challenge

Please find below the instruction for ALL to join the Tigers 'Six Nations Challenge':

1. Click on the link to register on the Paphos Tigers 'Six Nations Challenge' website> http://www.sportguru.co.uk/sixnations/. If it does not work then cut and paste it into your browser.

2. Click on 'Register Now'

3. Complete the Profile page – Then enter next

4. Complete the Location page – Then enter next

5. Complete the 'RBS Six Nations' page – Then hit the complete registration

6. You will then be taken to 'You need to play in a pool' page; Select 'Find a Pool'

7. The next page gives you the option to 'Find a pool' type in the box 'paphos tigers' in lower case and hit search

8. The results should show up as the 'paphos tigers' and the captain – now hit the paphos tigers button will three players (sound about right eh!)

9. You will be now taken to the 'paphos tigers' pool page where the captain will approve your application – now hit next

10.Now hit the 'Apply for Membership' button

11.Now you should be at the 'Thank you for applying heading' page

12.At this point keep checking your designated email address as once you are approved then you can compete your selections for the Paphos Tigers 'Six Nations Challenge'

13.When you receive your email you eligible to join the competition

14.Now go to the 'Make your picks' at the top of the page and enter;

1. Your pick
2. Challenge predictor
3. Most tries
4. Justify your pick

You can continue to enter all the six nations' games or leave them and pick them later.

Entrance fees are 15 euros (only 1 euro per game and to be paid at the Keg). Lots of prizes to be won
