Two Paphos Tiger Colts get Awards

An U17 Summer Training Camp held at the Paphiakos Stadium last weekend, was arranged by The Cyprus Rugby Federation, sponsored by The Early Learning Centre who invited both Israeli and Cypriot Colts coaches and referees to this event.
This was hosted by Ex French International Pierrre Villepreux and integrated the coaching of colts referees and coaches along with health and nutritional advice and was a very successful three day course.
The two awards won by the Paphos Tiger colts ,given by the Israeli contingent were for Best Player, Jack Bilton, and Most Improved Player, Charles Gallagher. Well done lads.
On the final day a free flowing match between Cyprus and Israel ended in Cyprus winning by 4 tries to three.
It was great to see so many youngsters enjoying the game and can only auger well for the future of rugby in Cyprus.
Well done the CRF in organising this event.

Great News - Cyprus improve Ranking

It was confirmed yesterday that after Cyprus had played in Greece and Croatia recently in the European Sevens Competition, that they magnificently improved their ranking.
They started the competitions in 21st place but have now improved by nine places and are now considered 12th best in Europe.
For a small country that has only been involved in Internationals for 3 years to have achieved this high ranking position in such a short time is absolutely brilliant , and full praise must go the full Cypriot Sevens team in achieving so much in so little time.
Well done all of you guys, and we are especially proud of our own Paphos Tigers in this squad of George Agathocleous, Kyle Oelofse, Chris Thoma and Marcus Holden.

Tiger Cubs in Action

The Paphos Tiger Minis took part in an U12 Tournament in Limassol on Sunday 14th June 2009, along with teams from Limassol Crusaders, Pascal English Schoool and the American Academy (Limassol). It is the first tournament they have taken part in for 4 years and they didn't let us down.

Our players were :Sam Blomfield 9 years, Callum Cowley 10 years, Ewan Cowley 7 years, Alexi Droushiotis 7 years, Zak Droushiotis 9 years, Henry England 9 years, Flynn Kennedy 10 years, Chelsey Mac 11 years , Alex Panayai 11 years, Bradley Sherwood 11 years.

They played four matches, 2-5, 6-1, 2-4, 4-5. Unfortunately the scores do not give a true picture of how they played. In the first match against the American Academy they were a bit rusty and unorganised, but considering the season finished at the end of March, we can allow them this!

The second match was against Pascal ( a team, incidently, that consisted solely of 14 and 15 year olds). They lifted their game and despite the huge age difference, beat them soundly 6-1. A great win considering our team had two 7 year olds, three 9 year olds, two 10 year olds and three 11 year olds.

It was a joy to watch them pull toether as they got into the tounament showing great defensive skills and outstanding runs.

The Tiger Mini's got through to the semi-finals only to be pipped at the post by the American Academy 4-5.

A big thanks to all our players, parents and supporters who made the trip. Well done chaps!

If anyone, boys and girls, are interested in joining the team or just coming down to see what rugby is all about please contact Sally on 99326452. All are welcome.

Sad News

Sad News

It is with deep regret we have to report the passing of Mrs Jacky Newman.
With her love of rugby and "Can Do" attitude she was very much a stalwart of the club, and was always first to volunteer her services for fund raising and helping out.
She will be deeply missed.
Our thoughts and sympathy go out to her husband Roy and family at this very sad time.
