European Sevens Results

The boys done good!!!!!
In group A they only lost one match out of four and that was against the tournament's favourites Spain, and beat Bosnia, Luxembourg and Greece, so they came second in their group and went on to play the mighty France in the semi finals of the Cup.
Unfortunately France were to strong and so, after a play off position aginst Spain again they came out overall fourth in the competition out of 10.
It shows how well they played because in the International rankings they have now improved 5 places and have shot up from 21st to 16th out of 30 countries.
Well done Cyprus, well done Tigers and good luck in your next competition next weekend in Split in Croatia.
They will be up against Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Croatia Bosnia Serbia Switzerland and Hungary, so another stiff competition for our proud Cypriot Team.
As you know the team has to pay its own ways and if you feel you would like to help them with their travelling expenses then please either contact me or call in the Keg & Barrel or Rugby Arms and leave a donation.

Four Tigers in Pre World Cup Qualifier

European Sevens Championship 2009 FIRA-AER
This is the start for Cyprus of a long hard and arduous route which could result in the chance to qualify for the World Cup Sevens.
Four Paphos Tigers, Chris Thoma, Kyle Oelofse, Marcus Holden & George Agathocleous have all beeen called into the Cypriot Sevens squad which travels to Athens this weekend to play in the first round pre qualifier.
They will be playing Spain Greece Bosnia and Luxembourg in Pool A and the other teams in Pool B are France Romania Monaco Serbia and Bulgaria.
There is a Bowl, Plate and Cup to play for over this 2 day event, (sponsored by the Hellenic Rugby Federation and the Greek Government) but even more importantly will be the collection of points towards qualification matches further along the road.
Next weekend they will be playing in Split in Croatia and will come up against some even stronger teams such as Italy, France Germany Belgium Croatia Bosnia Serbia Switzerland and Hungary, but if enough match wins can be claimed then they can travel to Germany for play offs for the World Cup Sevens.
Now wouldn't that be something.
Good luck Tigers, Good luck Cyprus and come back with some silverware and those valuable points.
